Several years ago, a neighbor of mine in Saint Helena mentioned he and his wife had just partnered in a new wine project he hoped to show ACME upon completion. Hearing this sort of thing from many friends and colleagues with which we share the Napa Valley, I was quite excited to hear more, knowing what treasures these relationships have unveiled in the past for our clients. This friend, Sebastian Lane, is a real estate agent who has deep roots and profound connections in St. Helena going back several decades. In 2009, he helped a couple find a home on a beautiful piece of property on the west side of St. Helena down Vallejo Street, a stone’s throw to other small parcels of prime vineyard land including: The Crane Assembly, Beckstoffer Las Piedras, Beckstoffer Dr. Crane, Anomaly, Gallica, Beckstoffer Bourn, and Bressler. Sebastian’s imagination immediately started revving-up and he convinced the owners to let him plant the land and be responsible for everything involved in making a small production wine from this pristine site. Now, if you are a Cabernet grower and collector, this is THE land on which you want your grapes growing. Sebastian’s connections in the wine industry, from his international barrel business he co-owns to the people who have walked this vineyard with him as it was being planned, are all names you would recognize. Although we are unable to reveal the source of the invaluable advice and assistance Sebastian received, from both high-end Oakville and Bordeaux wineries in the planting of the vineyard, trust us when we say, all would surely impress. The winemaking reigns have been placed in Sebastian’s mentored and able hands and this amazing project from an absolutely stunning plot of land is now yours to savor. The wine is stunning, and the concept is one of the most creative ways I have seen a micro-project presented to its limited audience. With only 150 Magnum 3pks and 100 cases of 750mls, this is what we literally live to sell!
For each vintage of Depiction, Seb and Estelle Lane commision an artist who inspires them and an original painting free of wine country scenes or nuances takes the stage, true to the artist's vision. When the artwork is completed, they hand cut it down into hundreds of smaller pieces, equal to the number of bottles they have produced for that vintage. Those individual canvas segments of the painting become the physical front labels of their magnum bottles for that vintage. The reverse side of each label is hand numbered to enable its original location in the painting to be discovered.
Magnums sold exclusively as a 3pk ~ $1650.00
