Behrens Family is a boutique winery in the truest sense. Les Behrens (a former grave digger, turned wood worker, turned construction worker, turned restaurant owner, turned vintner) and his wife, Lisa Drinkward (former chef and restaurant owner and partner in Drinkward Peschon), have made wine under the Behrens & Hitchcock label since 1993 and now under the Behrens Family Winery label producing very small lots of wine at its winery perched high on top of Spring Mountain. Sourcing from interesting and esteemed vineyards around the Napa Valley, each wine is a low-tech labor of love: crushed into one-ton T-bins, punched down by hand, gently transferred to barrel, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. One only has to look at Les and Lisa's hands during harvest to know their wines are truly "hand-crafted" and made with inspiration, innovation, and love. All of their wines are so richly engrained with passion and resourcefulness, so much so you can taste in the glass their fervor for the vineyards, their love and appreciation for the people who help tend to the vines, and their ingenuity in the creation of these inspired and enchanted wines.
"Made up of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Petit Verdot, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Head In The Clouds has a deep purple-black color and reveals bold notions of crushed black plums, chocolate-covered cherries, crème de cassis and cinnamon stick with nuances o f lilacs, cloves and wild thyme. Full-bodied and vibrating with energetic black fruits and spicy layers, it has a firm backbone of ripe, grainy tannins and great freshness, finishing with a lingering menthol lift." -Lisa Perrotti-Brown
