Finding a great Cabernet blend that is under the radar AND has a reputation doesn’t always happen. The prestigious Blankiet Estate is known for their supreme and esteemed, collectable and noteworthy Cabernet and Bordeaux blends. Since the 2008 vintage, the team has crafted a small amount of Prince of Hearts, a bottling that we consider one of the finer Napa Bordeaux varietal blends. The silkiness, the unadulterated purity of fruit, the complex aromas, it is definitely aptly named. Prince of Hearts it unquestionably is.
So many storied names have been associated with Blankiet since they opened their doors in 1996: David Abreu, Helen Turley, Martha McClellan, Michel Rolland, plus our dear friend, the late Denis Malbec. Denis made this 2015 wine, a vintage he crafted with Claude and Katherine Blankiet before we lost him in a tragic accident last year. We miss him greatly. It's bittersweet to taste a wine this lovely and to know that Denis was only starting to realize his immense winemaking talent. A wine this delicious is a fine tribute to his memory.
A new chapter of Blankiet will be ushered in under the watchful eye of winemaker Graeme MacDonald, who completed this wine. Through his eponymous family project in Oakville and through his work with Kongsgaard Winery, we know that the Blankiet wines will continue to inspire for many years to come. You'll hear from us about these wines for a long time...
Prince of Hearts is a delicious, medium to full-bodied Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. With lift and character, it is an elegant and expressive wine, with a refreshing and gorgeous verve.
