ACME was built on discovering the next best wines for our clients and at times, these debut projects present themselves to us while still in barrel, sans label or even a marketing plan. For most of them, they are carried out in entirety and bottled under a new winery’s business plan. Occasionally, some of these 1-2 barrel productions are purchased and added to that existing label’s production to bolster the production size. In 2016, ACME took advantage of what had been presented to us in order to launch our own unique brand as your trusted agents of supreme quality within a community of world-renowned vineyards and winemakers.
While names are forbidden to be shared and details and sources cannot be divulged, the essential element is that with our connections on the inside, your affiliation will not only be coveted, it will carry no regrets, only the pleasures of collusion.
This 2017 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is a stunning and dynamic wine crafted from four “hidden gem” vineyards off the rugged Sonoma Coast appellation. One of the largest distinct appellations in the North Coast, the Sonoma Coast is crisscrossed by winding rural roads that ramble by wind-swept cow pastures, through forests and alongside rivers.
The vineyards varied in elevation, orientation and vine material, but all were located in excellent sites to produce Chardonnay. The vines range in age from 15 to more than 40 years. The different micro-climates of each vineyard offer various layers of flavor, from riper, juicier notes to leaner, refreshing acidity and diverse and enticing aromas.
The grapes were harvested by hand starting in late August through mid-September. All picking was done before sunrise to ensure the grapes arrived at the winery cold and in pristine condition. The wine was aged in 35% new French oak barrels for 12 months before it was blended together in tank for another three months of settling.
Golden in appearance, the wine’s aromas of jasmine, honeysuckle, tangerine and hay transition to more tropical fruit and peach. On the palate, the wine delivers an immediate rush of citrus zest, apricot and other stone fruit followed by crème brulee and brioche with a hint of baking spice. All of the fruit and savory characteristics are held together with a bright acidity that carries through a lush mid-palate and long, clean finish punctuated by an intriguing mineral aspect. A hearty yet balanced Chardonnay, the wine would be ideal for a seafood feast or as an aperitif with charcuterie, cheese and cornichons. Only 2 barrels produced.
