There are twelve cases of this wine in existence. Only twelve cases, or 144 bottles, were ever made, an homage to the classic Christmas carol “The Twelve Days of Christmas”.
And a stunning case it is, fire branded and custom crafted for this rare assortment of custom bottles.
First let us talk about the wine. Sourced from two prime Rutherford vineyards, winemakers Nat Komes and Enrico Bertoz (St. Rutherford, Revival Vineyards, Arbe Garbe) have made a wine that to me, personally, is ideally crafted and perfectly balanced. So lush and seamless, this wine exhibits a touch of the classic earthy, dustiness that Rutherford is known for along with soft, beautiful red fruit. It speaks to a warming winter evening, cozy by a fire, and certainly with a special meal. Again, careful barrel selections and masterful blending of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon with 10% Malbec and 10% Cabernet Franc yielded just enough to make 12 perfect cases of wine.
The presentation takes this wine from delicious to MUST HAVE.
The case: Fire-branded and stunning. If your intended recipient has a showcase cellar, or just appreciates rare wine trophies, they will absolutely flip when they see this hand-hewn 12-pack wooden case.
The labels: Specially commissioned by the winery, Raul Gonzalez III, the award winning artist and illustrator, created a unique and original work of art for each separate bottle as its label, showing a different verse from the beloved Christmas song. A Partridge in a Pear Tree is on the first bottle, and all the way on the 12th bottle, you’ll find everyone and everything from the Lords a Leaping to the Gold Rings to the Pipers Piping. Photos barely do this marvelous work of art justice, but peek below.
Per the winery’s request, these are to be sold only in 12-packs. If a case of wine in the $100 range is something that you might spring for when a special gifting scenario arises, then this is the clear choice in that dear category. Micro-production and an evident labor of love for impeccable winemaking combined with a whimsical appreciation for gorgeous storytelling and presentation, The Twelve Days of Christmas is simply perfect. And I’m no Grinch, but if you told me I’d be chatting Christmas in September, I never would have believed it… however, this wine and this gift case is irresistible.
