Gorgeously concentrated and wonderfully expressive, Le Pich will stop you in your tracks! It is a show-stopping, drink-me-daily Cabernet with showy, rich notes of dark black and blue fruit, mountain spice, silky tannins, and mouth-watering acidity ~ it’s downright delicious and completely guilt-free at $50 per bottle! It continues to be one of the most requested wines we have featured here in the shop, and at this unbelievable price point and its satin-like, voluptuous texture, it's no wonder! Experiencing a bottle of Le Pich leaves a lasting impression and those who are fond of the brand, understand its impact and ability to overdeliver.
The younger sister of rising cult Cabernet brand Purlieu ~ Le Pich is named after a Wappo Indian term meaning “golden eagle,” referring to the hunting birds that soar above our Napa Valley vineyards. They are breathtaking creatures — stately and impressive, yet never boasting, with a liveliness that engages our attention and inspires us. Crafted by legendary winemaker Julien Fayard, experiencing a bottle of Le Pich is just that, an experience that you will never forget! This is a wine that will undoubtedly please any full-bodied red wine drinker. Julien’s ultimate goal of his Le Pich Wines is that they live up to the character of their namesake. Julien has lived in the Napa Valley since 2006 when he left his homeland in France and several noteworthy jobs in both Provence and in Bordeaux – places that had defined his core winemaking style – to dig roots in California. His time spent at the dignified first growth Château Lafite-Rothschild as well as at Smith Haut Lafitte, gave Julien all of the intricate tools he needed to take this new step. It was during his time at Château Lafite-Rothschild, that Julien says he learned his attention to detail and how to not excessively intervene in the winery.
Here in Napa, Julien worked briefly at Quintessa before signing on as Director of Winemaking for Philippe Melka’s distinctive wine consulting company Atelier Melka, specializing in small production, handcrafted high end wines. It was here, working with a variety of clients including Lail Vineyards, Gemstone, Dalla Valle, and more that Julien further developed his winemaking style, while also gaining an intimate understanding of the valley’s vineyards and establishing strong relationships with its many passionate, quality-dedicated growers. He has a contagious spirit and a generous attitude with his peers in the industry that ultimately spills over into his craft. He is currently the man behind celebrated brands Purlieu, Covert, Empreinte and Matthew Wallace, each of which have become incredibly sought after over the years, while availability is becoming more and more scarce.
Le Pich delivers an exceptional level of quality, without the lofty price tag that often comes with many crowd-pleasing wines. Drawing from several illustrious AVA’s throughout Napa Valley, each vineyard and unique micro-climate elevates the final complex blend. Julien’s key objective is balance, utilizing healthy fruit at its peak ripeness, treating every cluster individually. Loaded with cassis, plum, raspberry, and dark cherry, Le Pich is a full-bodied 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that is rich and beautifully balanced with flavors of fully ripened black and blue fruits, violets, and melted chocolate leading to a very complex, long finish. The palate brightens into a ripe raspberry, blackberry and boysenberry core, layered with notes of black licorice and nutmeg. Fluid and smooth, this wine blends complexity with elegant freshness! This vintage is delightful at release and is everything you would expect from Julien Fayard…..a bottle you will find yourself reaching for often! An outstanding effort from a world class winemaker! Le Pich is one of our bestselling wines of all times, for good reason. We strongly recommend a case of this exquisite juice….you will thank us later!
