Can we tell you a
secret? Not all Crémant de Bourgogne are created equal. Crémant wines are
French sparkling wines that are produced in the same fashion as Champagne,
(with the mandatory secondary fermentation in the bottle, and
disgorgement/dosage). This distinguishes the wines from other sparkling
wines that are made with the Charmat method, or simply
carbonated. There are only seven wine regions that can produce
Crémant, and the AOC regulations for this style of wine are
typically quite rigorous. Michael and Harmon
Skurnik, brothers and co-founders of the New York-based distribution and import
company Skurnik Wine & Spirits, have searched for years for a Crémant de
Bourgogne that can deliver the quality and value that their brand name has come
to represent. Coming up all but dry, the brothers decided to make one
themselves. Their own delicious new line of sparklers, called Victorine de
Chastenay, is made from fruit in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune in
Burgundy (a welcome contrast to most Crémant de Bourgogne wines that are made
from fruit in the Mâconnais, Beaujolais, and Côte Chalonnaise). These wines are
made with great care to preserve the minerality and freshness of the Côte d'Or
fruit and are aged on the lees for 20 months before release when the minimum
for the appellation is only 12 months! It is rare to find a Crémant of such
pedigree and quality at this price point.
Coming from
40-year-old vines in the Cote d'Or region in Burgundy, this Brut Rosé of 100%
Pinot Noir is sent direct to press, meaning the wine receives only a moment of
skin contact and is the reason behind the kiss of pink in the glass. It is fermented
in stainless steel tanks before 20 months of aging on the lees. Crisp, vibrant
and lively in the glass, pure red berry and floral notes give the wine a sense
of energy with a hint of blood orange on the juicy and refreshing finish. This
bottle has holiday party written all over it!Can we tell you a
